She remained in the Swedish parliament, boycotted class and held a placard which read "School Strike For Climate". She was determined to get the interest of politicians and encourage them to act to stop the effects of global warming. Swedish media covered Thunbergs protest and spread the news. Following the strike, students all around joined Thunberg's #FridaysforFuture movements. Students skipped Friday classes in protest against global warming. Climate activists from across the globe organized the initial Global Strike for Climate in 2019. The event was hugely successful. More than 1.6 million participants across more than 125 countries took part.
